Someone that makes you laugh
I've been working late into the evening trying to keep up with all the lovely Fall Family Sessions I've photographed. This family session I've been working on these past few hours and came to an image that was particularly familiar to me ♥. Circumstances were such that my son had to be with me during the first half hour of this "multi- family" session. No biggy, as this particular family group know us well - we are related - and Sam is pretty good and, actually, can be very entertaining....
To my Family in which I've been working hard getting your images ready for viewing, hang in there as they will be ready soon. As I head off to dream land I wanted to leave this with you...
More lovely pictures from this group coming soon!

Sophia in the Gardens
Sophia is my niece's daughter and she is two. She talks... a lot.
She is VERY social, assertive, articulate, smart, happy, funny... she says things like "oh man" and sings the Cinderella song, ♪♫ "A dream is a wish your heart makes" ♫♪
Whilst wagging her finger at you she'll say "Don't Even!"
She told her Grandpa the other day, "Move your truck Grandpa, we're going home, you're in our way"
She's 2.
This little flower has BIG personality! We took her to the biggest garden we knew...
The Devonian Gardens I think I'm going to get season passes ♥

English Family Love
Bless 'em! Meeting new families is one of parts I enjoy very much about my job! This family traveled all the way from England to have their pictures taken with me! Ok fine, they actually didn't come here to see ME in particular rather they came to visit family, and as I know the family they were visiting very well... ok so they were persuaded by a good friend of mine that they should do this family picture thing. We picked a morning time (not my usual preferred evening time) as their kids are awake at 6:00am!!! - quite unheard of in my house - but the LIGHT was gorgeous and we all enjoyed the summer morning along the creek. I also learned that when speaking in love about your children, you always end the sentence with "Bless'em", must be an English thing :D
Here are a few images, ok a lot of images, too many sweet ones, Bless'em ♥
One of my absolute favorites from this session |

Delicious Autumn!
AUTUMN!!! I LOVE this season..... love, love, love, from the bottom of my berry-stained shoes to the top of my north-wind blown hair! Everything about this season is the best, the colors, the smells, the shorter cozier days, the wind that blows the beautiful colored leaves to the sky, the fall light. I want to start decorating with pumpkins and orange colored candles that smell of spice, I even find myself enjoying the spooky fun of Halloween... but secretly of course! I am the Mom taking all the Thanksgiving and Halloween books out of the library, and the kids and I snuggle into our big bed and start reading until bedtime, Our favorite right now is "The Pumpkin Blanket" by Deborah Turney Zagwyn, we usually read it a few times. I baked a berry pie yesterday ,which I don't usually do, it looked so pretty and smelled divine, I didn't want to slice into it - Brad eventually persuaded me. It is so beautiful outside and the family sessions I've been photographing have all been stunning.... I only wish I could get my family out there, for now I have to make due with more photographs of my children.... well there is always next year ♥
Samuel had a great time scouting the location with me. He "collected" thing, something he is learning in Kindergarten, and he is learning to take pictures ♥ |
Anna is a fabulous Location Scouting assistant, all too eager to pose and smile ♥ |
Have a great autumn everyone!!!

Trash the Dress, Fearless Bridal or maybe just a romantic date night....
This Blog post is very overdue! Over the summer I had the awesome experience of photographing a "Trash the Dress" session... what is Trash the Dress you ask?
Wikipedia : Trash the dress, also known as fearless bridal or rock the frock, is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. It is generally shot in the style of fashion and glamour photography. Usually brides decide to have pictures taken on a beach, but other locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings.
Got it? Yay!
OK to be perfectly honest I wasn't hired, I asked this very beautiful girl I knew and her very easy going husband if they wouldn't mind having their pictures taken in their wedding attire, being romantic and a little daringly sexy with each other (I'm sure they didn't mind that part) amongst an army of red ants, the walls of a rusty old machine shop, an abandoned old church yard and, oh yeah, icy cold creek water to name only a few locations! Ooooooo I had so much fun and they were so great, I can totally understand why this has become such a popular style of photography.
Some where along the way during this session I got an overwhelming sense that a photography session like this does not have to be about trashing the dress - you don't actually have to "trash" the dress!! - It is in more ways than one about the couple. The bride feeling extra beautiful again in her dress that she wore 1 year ago 2, 3 or maybe even 10 years ago. The groom seeing his girl - his wife, lover, friend, mother to his children - as he did that first time on their wedding day and as he pulls her into his arms, kissing her again and again, because I've asked him to :), I watch them become ONE again, oblivious to me for the moment, oblivious for the moment, to the external forces of everyday life that test their love. She is BEAUTIFUL and he is humbled and they are fearlessly in LOVE ♥. I like the term "Fearless Bridal" the best... unless someone can think of a better name!

Milestones
It isn't easy sometimes to progress, we generally like to stay with the status quo, it's familiar, we've adjusted nicely, we are comfortable. But inevitably time passes, life changes, it challenges our courage and ultimately makes us stronger, smarter, better. Right? RIGHT!!!
There have been a few Milestones in our house this week. I have opened a new decade in age and have pulled out the new list of "Things I would like to accomplish in life" - I go by decades. I think I might be one decade behind.
I say this because my oldest child has begun school, yes according to my list he should have started a decade ago. But here he is, his first day of Kindergarten under his belt, sigh. It was great! There were no tears - from either of us - just excitement for the road ahead. I hope and pray that for every new road that lies ahead for us that we can smile with enthusiasm and celebrate it with cake ;)

10 years of married life....
Let me start by saying that while I'm typing this my three year old daughter Anna is sitting on my lap and has just tooted sending a cloud of stinkiness floating around us, she is gigglin' now. My 5 year old son Sam is beside me on the other computer where Transformer music is rockin' out of the little speakers, sigh... it really is hard to feel romantic in these conditions!
It is our 10 year Anniversary today and before you say, wow that's great, 10 years is a long time! let me tell you it doesn't feel like10 years. Sure the first 5 years were fantastic! It was just Brad and I and our two dogs. We worked regular hours, lived in a nice clean little condo. We had nice romantic evenings together on a regular basis, with lovely music playing on the stereo. Heavy sigh.... the next five years gave us a large house with a large yard to play in and maintain, limited romantic evenings, irregular work hours, toy chaos, constant laundry... there isn't enough hours in the day and that makes time zoom by like the motorcycle I dream of riding again someday. Having said all this, I really can not imagine life any other way nor do I want to. Brad and I have two amazing kids that we love in a larger then life way and yes they keep us busy, but we are enjoying them and enjoying each other in a whole new adventurous way.
Brad, I chose to be your wife 10 years ago today and promised to love you all the days of my life, in sickness and in health, and while that is the fairy tale romantic version - lets be real some days are more difficult then others and some days are easier - I say to you now that my life would not be as full, as happy, or as enjoyable without you in it and I choose to love you, honor you and sometimes obey you for the next 10 + happy adventurous years of our life together ♥

Lovely little Jaely
Sigh... there is something very special about this 3 day old little lady, can't quite put my finger on it...maybe it was that in all the time she was in the studio she never cried once... maybe it was that when she lay under the willow tree the soft wind through the leaves seemed to whisper lullaby's to her... but I think the most magical moment was when she looked up at her mom she seemed to already know her, her thoughts, her emotion. In all the whirlwind of the birth and events surrounding it, this little lady is the calm, soft gentle whisper that says
- "It's ok, I am here now" - ♥

Aiden Bar Mitsvah
2005 was the first time I met Aiden. Youngest of three siblings, Aiden's big brother Daniel was having his Bar Mitsvah. In 2007 Aiden's lovely big sister Ariella was having her Bat Mitsvah. Now, in 2010 Aiden is the last of this easy going and loving family to finally have his Bar Mitsvah! As his Mom said, next up are the Weddings ;) Thank you Aiden for all the smiles then and now!
Aiden then....

My Dad
A little while ago My Dad took my son Sam and I out to this old abandoned farm yard. My Dad knows I am always looking for new and interesting locations to shoot in and he spotted this location while on one of his many motorcycle rides. So we took off early one morning - ok so EARLY is relative - to a location Dad thought I might be interested in and BOY oh BOY was he right! Now he had told me a little bit about it but when we got closer and I saw that old truck sittin' there, WOW-wee! It's the little things ♥ This Gallery is my gift to you Dad on this Father's Day. I love you with so great a daughters love. I love that you always have time for me, I love that you are young at heart, I love that you love my kids and I Love that you love my Mom ♥
Happy Father's Day Dad!
